Gerry Cardoso
Who/What inspires you to create the art you have developed?
As a kid I was always surrounded by art, I had a lot of uncles and cousins who were musicians, painters. My grandfather was an amazing musician and a true artist, he would make his own guitars, violins and guitarrones for him and his fellow musicians. I believe since I was a kid growing up in Mexico City, all that kinda stayed with me.
At what moment did you realize this is what you wanted to do for the rest of your life?

We moved to LA when I was 9 and around 11-12 years old, I stated thinking a lot about the entertainment industry; actors, directors, rock stars ,etc. I wanted to be part of it, I didn’t know what I would do, sometimes I wanted to be a music producer, writer, produce movies, or music videos… didn’t know what exactly, but I knew I wanted to be in this industry. When I was in high school, my mother started working at an advertising agency. There I met a lot of her friends, most of them were writers, producer, directors, very creative people, and I wanted to be just like them. I truly believe that’s the moment I said “this is it".
What was a moment during your creative process when you were just stuck? And how did you overcome it?
There’s been a lot of those moments, creating a radio campaign or producing in the studio. What always worked for me when the “creative juices” were not there, I would step aside from it and leave it for the night. By doing this, I learned I work better at night, so that always works for me.

What is one of your dream projects?

Well, early this year, I started working on what I think is my dream project, can’t say much, but it's with a big studio and a great project.

What parting words can you share with our emerging artist?

Three words: Ready, Aim, Fire! Prepare yourself, aim towards the direction you want to head, and when you are ready, fire, go for it.
